Our Story

While the community itself is over 150 years old, the city proudly boasts a strong Community Betterment group which has hosted various projects around the area to keep the city of Allendale in pristine shape. Take a stroll along the city park, and enjoy the beauty and pride of the various homes that line the Allendale streets.

For the past twenty years the Missouri Community Betterment has consistently awarded Allendale top honors in their Community Betterment program in Category 1; this is a competition against other Missouri towns with a population of 500 or less in each community. Many years, Allendale has placed either first or second place; an amazing feat considering the town has consistently had a population of less than 60. However, one look at Allendale's charming landscape and anyone can see why. Though the 2010 winners have yet to be announced, Allendale placed Second in 2009.

Events

While Allendale hosts various events throughout the year, there are two annual events to take note of. The Annual Fourth of July Breakfast in the town park, sponsored by the 4th of July Men's Breakfast Club- celebrated every fourth of July rain or shine, and the Annual Allendale Rodeo - held the second weekend in August.

The 4th of July Breakfast has been a town tradition since 1964. Starting on July 3rd, the men bring their trucks, tractors and whatever else they can find to bring in picnic tables, chairs, grills, and tents and they set everything up. Then the next day at 6 A.M. the Men of the Breakfast Club start cooking bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes, toast, coffee & juice for all those that come and participate. It takes a lot of man power to serve the many who come from miles around to enjoy this breakfast with their community and surrounding neighbors. You'll see boys standing next to their fathers and grandfathers as they man the grills. During the breakfast, there is entertainment on the stage, prizes for the oldest, youngest, farthest away, most family members present and special recognition for our service men and women. Most years there is also a tractor pull for the youngsters.

The Allendale Rodeo is the Community Betterment's main fundraiser and has been for 15 years. Each year around 2000-3000 people come for this annual event, and it takes around 60 to 80 volunteers to man it each night, which is more than the community itself even has living in residence! It is always a big success and not only is it a staple for Allendale, but is also an annual event that many Worth County residents look forward to participating in every year as well.
